Dying Romantic

In the penultimate chapter,

We lie in wait.

Bereaved in wonderment,

The fantastical elements of

What could have been our lives

And the reality I forsake.

For merely in our thoughts

We’ve yet to leave

The azure skies

The radiant sun, effervescent in its warmth;

The only place where

My hand remains intertwined

With yours.

One day, one month, one year,

Several decades,

Several lifetimes,

I lie waiting.

I may pass this world soon

Yet I cannot frown,

I cannot cry,

I cannot lament.

For I’ve never left

I’m still there,

I’m still there with you.

And I will never leave you again.
